Direction

Storage conditions Keep at room temperature (below 25°C) in a dry place in the original pack. Do not use Flaminal® (Hydro or Forte) after the expiry date shown on the pack. The expiry date (USE BY: Year/Month) is the last day of the indicated month and year. Recap the tube carefully immediately after use. Once opened, and if recapped carefully, a tube of Flaminal® (Hydro or Forte) can be stored at room temperature and used for 12 months. A pack of Flaminal® (Hydro or Forte) will be used for one patient only (multiple use- single patient). Applying or renewing Flaminal® (Hydro or Forte) is easy and painless. 1. Cleansing the wound and surrounding area is recommended prior to application of Flaminal® (Hydro or Forte). 2. Cover the entire wound bed with a sufficiently thick layer (e.g. 4-5 mm) of Flaminal® Hydro or, in the case of moderately to highly exuding wounds, of Flaminal® Forte. Flaminal® (Hydro or Forte) can be applied in the following ways, e.g. directly from the tube, directly on the dressing first, with a spatula, with a nozzle or with a syringe. 3. Cover Flaminal® (Hydro or Forte) with a dressing. The choice of dressing should be based on the type of wound: - Slightly to moderately exuding wound: transparent film (polyurethane) or non-adherent dressing fixed by a non-adherent bandage for instance paraffin gauze. - Moderately to highly exuding: absorbent non-adherent dressing fixed by a non-adherent bandage or by a hypoallergenic, adhesive tape. 4. Check the dressing daily. - The dressing with Flaminal® (Hydro or Forte) can remain in place as long as the gel structure is intact (1 to 4 days, depending on the amount of exudate). - If it is leaking or if there is insufficient gel, Flaminal® (Hydro and Forte) should be changed and a new dressing applied. 5. At every change of dressing/ cleaning the wound: - Clean the wound and surrounding area well - Remove all dry whitish alginate flakes from the wound and only the flakes on the wound border can stay on. The flakes will prevent wound border weakening maceration (softening and breaking down of skin resulting from prolonged exposure to moisture). Maceration slows the healing process of the wound.

Warnings

Flaminal should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional If you are concerned about your wound, consult a healthcare professional. Contraindications Do not use Flaminal® (Hydro or Forte) when there is a known allergic reaction to any of the ingredients (see Ingredients). Good to know - In case of doubt over whether to use Flaminal® Hydro or Flaminal® Forte, start with Flaminal® Hydro. - When the wound is moderately to highly exuding, Flaminal® Hydro will liquify rapidly and you will have to renew Flaminal® Hydro too often: switch to Flaminal® Forte instead. - When dry flakes of alginates appear in the wound, and you are using Flaminal® Forte, the wound is too dry for Flaminal® Forte. Use Flaminal® Hydro instead. - If dry whitish alginate flakes appear in the wound, and you are already using Flaminal® Hydro, then ensure that Flaminal® Hydro is covered with a dressing that retains moisture. The flakes in the wound will disappear when the wound moisture balance is restored. - In the initial phase of the treatment the wound may seem to become larger. This is a normal part of the healing process in which dead tissue is eliminated. - The colour of the alginates (gel) may change slightly due to their natural origin. Colour changes have no effect on the quality of Flaminal® (Hydro or Forte). - Should the wound hypergranulate for reasons other than infection, stop using Flaminal® (Hydro and Forte) and keep the wound dry to reduce cell growth. Applying local pressure to the wound bed will also help reduce hypergranulation (hypergranulation is characterised by the appearance of light red or dark pink flesh that can be smooth, bumpy or granular). Special wounds - Leg ulcers: adhesives often cause allergic reactions, particularly in patients with leg ulcers. Cover with a non-adhesive bandage. - Undermined wounds and small deep cavities: inject Flaminal® (Hydro or Forte) carefully into the cavity using a dedicated applicator. Special warnings and precautions for use - For external use only. - The FIRST time a patient is treated for wounds which might reach the level of bones and joints or with exposed bones and joints, the patient should be under observation for at least 30 minutes after the administration of Flaminal® (Hydro or Forte). - Some wounds may indicate a complementary treatment. Consult a physician or wound specialist. - Flaminal® (Hydro and Forte) can be used on infected wounds under medical supervision only. - The gel has a faint odour caused by alginates. This odour has no influence on the healing process. Should there be a sudden distinct odour, consult a physician or wound specialist. - Flaminal® (Hydro and Forte) cannot be used on the eyelids or in the eye. Should it come into contact with an eye, rinse the eye thoroughly with running water and consult a physician. - Do not use the product if you notice that the product is damaged or unintentionally opened before use Undesirable effects Side-effects such as irritations or allergic reactions are rare but can occur. Stop immediately using Flaminal® (Hydro and Forte) if irritation or allergy occurs. Always read the label and follow the directions for use. Flaminal should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional If you are concerned about your wound, consult a healthcare professional.

KEY FEATURES • Flaminal® (Hydro and Forte) debride (clean) the wound. • Flaminal® (Hydro and Forte) keep the wound moist by covering the wound with an intact gel structure (intact= keeps its form for up to 4 days). • Flaminal® (Hydro and Forte) offer antimicrobial protection. • Flaminal® (Hydro and Forte) reduce wound odour caused by bacteria. • Flaminal® (Hydro and Forte) help to reduce excessive protease activity (protease = enzyme that breaks down proteins). • Flaminal® (Hydro and Forte) reduce bacteria released from a biofilm. • Flaminal® (Hydro and Forte) protect the wound border.
